‘Jurassic Park’ star Sam Neill has assured fans he’s doing “fine” after growing increasingly worried about his health since revealing he was being treated for cancer.
Neill revealed his battle with stage 3 blood cancer in his upcoming memoir “Did I Ever Tell You This?”
The 75-year-old said he was soon diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, undergoing chemotherapy until he switched to a new drug which he plans to take every month for the rest of his life.
“I’m alive and well and have been in remission for 8 months, which feels really good,” he said in a video shared to the platform on Friday. “And I’m alive and active and going to work.”
Neill, who has been in remission for 8 months, said he was back to working on screen within days alongside Annette Bening in the limited series “Apples Never Fall”.
“I’m very happy to be back at work,” Neill told his 542,000 followers. “Let’s not worry too much about ‘all that’ because I’m fine. Alright,” he concluded his video, referring to concerns over his previous diagnosis.
Concerns over Neill’s health intensified on Friday after an excerpt from his book was revealed.
“The thing is, I’m a crook. Maybe dying,” he writes in the first chapter, which comes out Tuesday. “I might have to speed things up.”
He said he never intended to write memoirs, but started doing so during treatment last year because he found it “gave me kind of a reason to live”.
“I found myself with…nothing to do,” Neill told the Guardian in an interview published on Friday.
“And I’m used to working. I like to work. I love going to work. I like to be with people every day and enjoy human company and friendship and all those things. And suddenly I was deprived of it. And I thought, ‘What am I going to do?’ »
Neill added that he no longer has cancer, although he relies on the monthly chemotherapy drug.
The actor rose to international fame in 1993 with his role as Dr. Alan Grant in “Jurassic Park.”
He played the same character in “Jurassic Park III” in 2001 and in the movie “Jurassic World Dominion” in 2022.
