Sam Altman, the CEO of the company that created ChatGPT, arguably the world’s best-known AI chatbot, revealed he was “a little scared” of his company’s invention, during an interview with ABC News.
“We have to be careful here. I think people should be happy that we’re a little scared of this,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in an interview. He said it was because the technology itself was incredibly powerful and potentially dangerous. Asked why he reacted “frightened” to the creation of his company, Mr. Altman replied that if he was not, “you should either not trust me or be very unhappy that I occupy this post”.
“It’s going to eliminate a lot of current jobs, it’s true. We can create much better ones. The reason for developing AI, in terms of impacting our lives and improving our lives and the benefits , it will be the greatest technology mankind has yet to develop,” Mr. Altman continued.
Mr. Altman also discussed the effects that AI-powered chatbots could have on education and whether they could promote laziness among students. “Education is going to have to change. But it’s happened many other times with technology. When we got the calculator, the way we taught math and what we tested students on totally changed,” he said. he continued.
OpenAI recently launched GPT-4, the AI technology that exhibits human-level performance on certain professional and academic tasks. According to the company’s blog, the latest chatbot is “more creative and collaborative than ever” and “reportedly solves difficult problems with greater precision” than its previous versions.
