Aaron Rodgers inevitably seems to end up with the New York Jets sooner rather than later, although that may not be positive for the franchise, according to Packers legend LeRoy Butler.
As parts of New York and New Jersey gloat over Rodgers’ impending arrival, Butler tried to pour cold water on a deep playoff run for Gang Green.
“You’re not going to the Super Bowl,” Butler told Jets fans, via TMZ. The Hall of Fame safety went even further, saying the Jets will finish below .500 again.
New York finished the NFL’s final season bottom of the AFC East with a 7-9 record – having lost six straight games to close it.
As evidenced by a 7-3 start, there is plenty of promise at Florham Park, not that Butler necessarily agrees.
Rodgers announced his intention to play for the Jets on Tuesday during a lengthy interview on the Pat McAfee Show, with a trade package the only aspect currently standing between Rodgers and the success-starved New York franchise.
“I was on a team that went to two Super Bowls — your team has to be close,” Butler said.
“I don’t know if Aaron Rodgers will be there all offseason to bond with the best rookie receiver of the year. [Garrett Wilson].
“I don’t know if he will be there to go to the clubs with Breece Hall. I don’t know.
“If he is ready to do this job, you never know. But come on, Jets…the hardest part [conference] is AFC; Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen – these guys aren’t going anywhere. They don’t just go to bed.
“They will probably win seven, eight games. Eight matches. Although he has a brighter prediction for Jordan Love and his old team.
“Now Packers, we’re going nine or ten because we’re all on board. Thanks Jets, well done Robert Saleh. Woody [Johnson] THANKS!’
During his 12-year NFL career – all with the Packers – Butler was a 4x first-team All-Pro, a member of the 1990s NFL All-Decade Team, as well as the Green Bay and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
