A triple threat Intercontinental Championship match is scheduled for WrestleMania 39

Just last week, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus pinned in a Fatal 5-Way match that was supposed to determine who would fight GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestle Mania 39. Because they scored said pinfalls at the same time, Adam Pearce simply booked a singles match between the two to Friday Night SmackDown this week in Kansas City.

There were persistent rumors that a Triple Threat was still planned. So how would this all play out?

Naturally, the two couldn’t actually determine a winner, as they were about to be counted out together before GUNTHER himself interrupted them and attacked the two with his Imperium mates. Having seen enough, Pearce decided to go ahead and prove the rumors were correct, booking a triple threat.

It’s finally official.

Wrestle Mania 39 will take place on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2, 2023 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. Here is the updated match card:

  • WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) against Cody Rhodes
